‘River of flame’ will shut down Forth Road Bridge for festival finale
ByLeeza Clark
A glittering climax to the Forth Road Bridge’s birthday party will truly bring traffic to a halt.
While the 50-year-old crossing has been closed for short spells, most recently for the Jim Clark rally, the spectacular “river of flame” will be the first time it has been closed for such a long period for non-operational or maintenance reasons.
With motorists being warned about inevitable delays, the big festivities are seen as a fitting celebration for the bridge, which has played such a pivotal role in the country’s roads network since 1964.
With no local parking, ticket holders have been urged to take advantage of shuttle buses being laid on.
The torchlight procession, fireworks display and outdoor ceilidh are on track for a sell out.
