Police are appealing for witnesses to help trace a man who assaulted a woman in Cupar.
The victim was attacked in Hill Crescent early on Saturday morning.
The female was hit several times with an item the attacker was carrying before he was seen leaving in the Westport direction.
Detective Sergeant Paul Dick said: “About 4am this morning a 37-year old-woman was walking alone on Hill Crescent, Cupar when she was approached by a male who struck her on the body with an item he was carrying before striking her further a number of times.
“The male was last seen walking in the direction of West Port. The woman sustained minor injuries but was clearly shaken and upset by the incident.
“The male is described as 20-30 years old, 5 ft 5in tall, brown hair and wearing a blue top and jeans.
“I would appeal to the public to contact us if they saw anyone or heard anything in the area about this time regardless of how insignificant they believe it may be.”
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
