Showdown talks to save Velux jobs in Glenrothes fail

The loss of 180 manufacturing jobs at a Glenrothes factory is a “fait accompli”, the town’s MP has said.
Lindsay Roy said that a “robust and frank” exchange of views took place as he and the town’s MSP, Tricia Marwick, joined with Fife Council leader David Ross for showdown talks at window manufacturer Velux.
It follows last week’s shock announcement that the company was to close its manufacturing arm, Fife Joinery Manufacturing, over the next 12 months.
The three politicians have all agreed to work together to assist those affected by the proposed job cuts, although the trio accept that nothing can be done to reverse the company’s decision.
“We had a robust and frank exchange of views but we recognise it is a fait accompli,” said Mr Roy.
“It is a highly skilled workforce and we are committed to working with them (Velux) on an ongoing basis.”
