The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dead dog was found inside a bin bag in Fife.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted when the elderly female dog was discovered on the A823 near Dunfermline on September 23.
Scottish SPCA Chief Inspector John Chisholm said, “A member of the public found the dog at a gate next to a track road. She was a black crossbreed and was not microchipped or wearing a collar.
“A recent post mortem examination revealed she was suffering from a serious uterus infection and would have required immediate veterinary attention.
“Unfortunately we were unable to establish the exact cause of her death, but what was particularly concerning was that she had obvious bruising around her neck area.
“So far our enquiries haven’t led us to identifying the owner of this dog and we are now appealing to the public to get in touch with us if they have any information.”
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
