The operators of the crossing have told The Courier that more maintenance work will be required as the bridge continues to suffer from wear and tear. Queues measuring for miles were reported along the M90 on Sundayas essential resurfacing of the carriageway reduced the bridge to a single lane. Despite forewarning, hundreds of motorists were caught out, with many forced to wait for hours in the ensuing delays. However a spokesperson for the bridge warned that similar delays could be expected when further work is conducted in the future. “It was essential maintenance and it prevents more significant disruption in the future,” he said. “But the bridge is getting older and the jobs will become more frequent. “We try to do most of the work overnight and we would not do the work during the day if it were not necessary.” For more on this story see The Courier or try our digital edition.
