The 80-year-old, who was not named, was found on the south-east corner of the Tom Morris football pitch by schoolchildren at around lunchtime. Police cordoned off the scene as an investigation began. They are not treating the incident as suspicious. It is understood the woman lived a short distance away on Tom Morris Drive and had gone to the park to feed the birds. St Andrews resident Phyllis Beadle said she was at home when she noticed police activity from her window. “It was a shock and quite frightening really,” she said. “It is a shame. It’s sad to go like that.”
