Glenrothes’ new leisure centre was formally opened and has been hailed as a major boost for the town.
Local MSP Tricia Marwick did the honours, unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion, joined by Fife Provost Jim Leishman and council leader Alex Rowley.
The £21 million centre, which actually opened to the public last month, would serve the local people for years to come, said Mrs Marwick, just like its predecessor.
She said: “I am delighted to open this magnificent sports facility, which will serve the needs of the Glenrothes area for the next generation.
“My own children were taught to swim at the old Fife Institute and I am delighted that my grandson is now learning to swim at the new Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre”
Mr Rowley also heaped praise on the facility, part of a major investment in leisure centres in the region.
“I hope that the local community and people from further afield will be attracted to this fantastic centre and the range of opportunities it offers,” he said.
“By investing in this type of high-quality centre the council is giving people of all ages the best possible incentive to get fit and active, as well as offering a regional facility for our local groups and athletes to further develop and hone their sporting talents.”
