A major housing development within Dunfermline’s eastern expansion has taken a step forward with developers lodging formal planning permission for the site.
BDW Trading Limited has requested full planning consent to build 116 homes on land to the south of Lynebank Hospital’s Mayfield unit and to the east of existing housing on North Larches.
The site was formerly occupied by hospital buildings but after demolition several years ago, the site was allocated for development.
Public consultation has been carried out and the developers hope Fife Council will now find their proposals for development favourable when considered.
A spokesperson for BDW Trading Limited said: “The new neighbourhood will be a positive addition to the urban fabric of the area.
“The proposal provides a sensitive solution to the site and the surrounding area.
“The development also aims to retain and reinforce the key landscape features of the site, including enhancing tree planting, and work within the existing topography and landform.
“The development will provide much needed family housing within an area that is already suited to this kind of development.”
According to the blueprint for the development, the main vehicular access point would be from South Larch Road at the south-western point of the site.
The existing access from the north would no longer be used.
The plans also note the undulating nature of the current site and highlights the need for the new housing to “respond positively” to the current layout.
