A St Andrews fish and chip shop has been shortlisted for the title of regional Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year at the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards.
Cromars, on Union Street, is one of six Scottish shops shortlisted as part of the top 60 across the UK. The British champion will be announced in London next January.
Cromars proprietor Colin Cromar told The Courier: “We are delighted to be in the top six. We are a new business just 10 months old so this is quite an accolade. ”
Cromars might be new to the town but Mr Cromar is no stranger to winning awards.
A veteran of the fish and chip industry for 30 years, he won Scottish Fish Shop of the year in 2001 and 2001 as proprietor of the award-winning Anstruther Fish Bar, which he sold in 2003.
He added: “Consistency is the most important thing. You are only as good as your last fish supper.”
