RAF Leuchars Typhoons to take off for night flying exercises
ByMichael Alexander
Typhoon squadrons at RAF Leuchars will conduct night flying on Monday and Tuesday.
A spokesman said: “With the primary mission at RAF Leuchars being Quick Reaction Alert, requiring pilots and engineers to be at readiness to launch Typhoon aircraft to protect Britain’s northern airspace 24 hours a day, operating at night is an essential skill that must be practised.
“Because of the acknowledged noise impact of this training, each flight is carefully scrutinised. It is planned that all of our aircraft will be on the ground by 8.30pm each night.”
