Fife Aeromodelling enthusiasts have sky-high hopes as they prepare to host a major exhibition in Glenrothes later this month.
Five local clubs have joined forces to demonstrate the wonders of miniature flight to the public at a specially-arranged event in the town’s shopping mall.
Members of Balbedie, Glenrothes, Dunfermline, East Neuk and Kinross aeromodelling clubs will be showing off their aircraft in the Kingdom Centre in what is a rare coming-together of the organisations.
The public can get up close to the amazing men and their flying machines, many of which have been painstakingly built by hand.
“That’s one of the things that we try and get across to youngsters,” said Colin MacLean, liaison officer with the Scottish Aeromodellers’ Association.
“Some of the models can take six months to build. But with mass production from the Far East, you’ve got models now that are coming out of the box that are pretty much built.
“All you have to do is put in the engine and that wouldn’t take too long.”
Vintage models and modern jets will be among the models on display, alongside helicopters. The event will be a showcase for the five clubs, with Mr MacLean hopeful of getting more people involved in aeromodelling.
Already a popular pastime, he added: “We want to show people that there is more going on than football and golf. Here we have five clubs within 30 miles of one another and each club has around 50 members.”
The exhibition will take place at Lyon Square in the Kingdom Shopping Centre on Saturday March 15.
