A staff member had to be treated with oxygen and a spa and swimming pool were evacuated after a chemical scare at a Fife hotel.
Emergency services were called to the Fairmont St Andrews hotel when the alarm was raised shortly after 2pm on Sunday.
Fairmont marketing manager Graeme Dawson said: “A small incident occurred today which resulted in our pool being closed to our guests.
“An error was made when cleaning the grills around the pool and a chemical reaction resulted in an immediate evacuation of the pool area.”
Mr Dawson added: “No one was injured. An employee had oxygen given to him by ambulance but, other than that, all was OK.
“The pool area has now been given the all-clear and will reopen at 6am tomorrow (Monday) as normal,” he said.
Police Scotland told The Courier: “Police and the fire service have responded to reports of a chemical incident in the spa of the Fairmont Hotel near St Andrews.
“The spa had been evacuated and four people were treated by paramedics at the scene.”
A member of staff at the resort declined to make any comment.
