Around 250 protesters gathered in the centre of St Andrews on Saturday to “Pipe up for Pipeland” as the site for a new Madras College.
Parents and their children turned up with banners and balloons to show their dismay at the decision of North East Fife councillors to vote against building a new Madras College at Pipeland.
The event, which took place outside Madras College on South Street, saw speeches by parents and a march behind a piper.
Councillors on the North-East Fife planning committee rejected an application for a £40 million school by seven votes to six at a special meeting. Their recommendation will now go before the full council this Thursday.Click here for a full photo galleryParent Voice spokeswoman Wendy Donald said: “Pipeland is the only option for the new Madras College and we want to prove that to councillors before the full Fife Council vote on April 3.
“The turnout today has been incredible. People from Tayport, Wormit, Balmullo, from all over, have travelled here to support us.
“People have been angry and annoyed by the decisions made. The message is loud and clear. I hope the councillors will listen to what we are saying.”
