Motorists are being warned one of Cupar’s busiest roads could be closed for up to three weeks when roadworks start this weekend.
Station Road, used by hundreds of vehicles every day, is to undergo maintenance from Sunday in a move that could have a big knock-on effect for drivers.
Used to bypass the town centre, it is expected many motorists will head through the junction of Crossgate and Bonnygate, potentially leading to major delays.
The works are to allow a resurfacing of the road, installation of a new pedestrian crossing, the construction of a new roundabout at the St Catherine Street junction and the completion of drainage works.
Tim Masters, lead professional for roads key projects with Fife Council, said: “This is part of the wider work to improve the town’s roads and to reduce congestion.
“We apologise for any delays it may cause and ask people to be patient during the closure.”
Large vehicles are being advised to use the A91, a route that will also be used by Stagecoach Express services.
These buses will not call at Cupar railway station, Pitlessie, Balmalcolm or Kettlebridge, although Fife Council will be offering a free shuttle service between Glenrothes bus station and Pitlessie and Cupar Bonnygate to Kettlebridge.
Local bus services will be affected.
