Fife Council backs new Madras College at Pipelands site

Fife Council has overwhelmingly voted in favour of a new Madras College for St Andrews.
A recommendation by north east Fife area committee to throw out plans for a secondary school at Pipeland Farm was sensationally overturned by 56 votes to 11.
The matter will now be referred to Scottish ministers for a final decision.
If given the go-ahead, a £40 million single-campus school would be built on greenbelt land to the south of the town, to replace the crumbling accommodation currently split between South Street and Kilrymont.
However, Thursday’s meeting also heard warnings that opponents could still launch lengthy legal action to challenge the decision.
