A total of 40 judges, 600 baked products and goodness knows how many thousands of calories.
That was the scene at the Carnegie Centre in Dunfermline on Wednesday as judging got under way at the Scottish Baker of the Year 2014.
Rolls, cakes, breads and savoury items were just some of the treats being put to the strictest of taste tests, with the winners set to be announced next month.
Head judge Robert Ross said: “We’re looking for the best of Scottish baking. It has to look good, taste good and the price has to be right.
“I just wish I had time to taste all of them.”
