RAF Leuchars jets take part in Joint Warrior European training exercise

The sound of RAF jets over Leuchars is to be expected in the coming weeks as the base takes part in Europe’s largest military exercise.
As aircraft from the station set off for training exercise Joint Warrior, residents have been warned to expect some flights at nights and weekends.
Twice a year, Joint Warrior involves more than 35 warships, 25 different types of aircraft and 13,000 military personnel in a realistic simulation of a live operation.
This month’s exercise is based around a scenario where the United Nations have sanctioned a multinational task force to intervene in a civil war in the fictional country of Pastonia. As well as military activities, armed forces are to undertake logistic, humanitarian and medical operations.
A spokeswoman for RAF Leuchars said: “Taking place until April 12 2014, Typhoon, Hawk and rotary aircraft will fly from Leuchars for the duration of the exercise. Limited night and weekend flying will form an integral part of the programme.
“As ever, RAF Leuchars will make every effort to minimise disruption to the local community and we thank our neighbours for their understanding during this important training.”
