The son of Newport woman Susan Reid, who was missing for three months, has said he finally received closure after her body was found.
And Jamie, 22, now faces the heartbreaking task of telling the sad news to his dad, who is thought to be suffering from dementia.
A massive search was launched in January after Dundee University librarian Susan, 56, went missing from her home.
After weeks of no news, her body was finally found in Tentsmuir Forest by a dog walker on March 25.
Jamie is now balancing funeral preparations while also trying to explain his mother’s fate to his father Keith, who also suffers from multiple sclerosis.
He said: “My mum was his full-time carer. After she went missing we had to put him in a care home, funded by Fife Council. We think he might have a touch of Alzheimer’s as well. He doesn’t know who I am, or most other people.
“We never actually disclosed to him that my mum was gone…it’s going to be difficult to explain it all to him.”
But Jamie admitted that when his mum’s body was found he was finally able to begin the grieving process and gain closure.
He said: “Now we can give her a proper send-off and a proper memorial service. It’s been the hardest few months of my life, but it’s definitely given me some closure and I can try to move on.”
Susan’s funeral will take place in Newport Parish Church on Tuesday April 15 at 2pm. A memorial service is also to be held in the Dundee University Chaplaincy on Friday 23rd May at 3pm.
