A Cupar man has been jailed for 135 days after headbutting a bar manager in a drunken assault.
Gavin Martin, 30, of Burnside, admitted carrying out the attack at the Blue Stane on Alexandra Place, St Andrews, on November 4.
The court heard the offence took place after Martin accused the bar manager of tampering with the games machine in the premises as he was attending to it. Martin was asked to leave but refused and several minutes of arguing followed.
The argument escalated to the garden area outside the pub at which point Martin turned round and headbutted the man on the face, leaving him bleeding with cuts to the bridge of his nose as well as several chipped teeth.
Martin’s solicitor said he regretted his actions and accepted there was no justification for his behaviour.
Sheriff Charles Macnair said because of Martin’s “appalling” record of violent offences there was no alternative to custody.
