Scotland rugby legends add their weight to Howe of Fife’s rebuild

Two legends of Scottish rugby are throwing their considerable weight behind the building of a new pavilion for Howe of Fife Rugby Club in Cupar.

Doddy Weir and John Beattie will speak at a Sportsperson’s Dinner on June 28 at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews as part of the club’s fundraising efforts.

The project, which will provide meeting and changing facilities for local sports clubs using Duffus Park in Cupar, will cost £1.2 million.

Fife Council has already backed the project with an offer of £450,000 and the club has also been awarded £60,000 from the Robertson Trust and £20,000 from the Bruce Trust.

“As part of the overall effort to raise the money for the project, the club has to prove it is also doing its bit in fundraising,” said Alison Murray, Howe club secretary.

“That is why we are organising a high profile fundraising dinner and we are delighted that two former Scottish rugby stars are coming along to speak.”

Teams of four are invited to a “shotgun” start and the evening will end with an auction of lots, with all the proceeds from both events going to the redevelopment fund.
