A prominent Fife businessman and adventurer has died after falling while skiing with his son in the French Alps.
Jeremy Salvesen, part of the Christian Salvesen dynasty, is understood to have drifted off a ski run and hit a rock after plunging 17 feet at the La Clusaz resort near Annecy.
Initial reports suggest the 51-year-old, who lived in the East Neuk village of Elie, had not been wearing a helmet when he got into difficulty on a blue run on Thursday afternoon.
His son is believed to have witnessed the accident.
A mountain rescue team was called to the slopes at around 1.30pm and Mr Salvesen, who had suffered a serious head injury, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Annecy where he passed away minutes after arrival.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed the death, adding: “We stand ready to provide assistance.”
Mr Salvesen was managing director of the former Edinburgh chocolate makers Duncans and in 2000 branched out to create Groovy Chocolate, an online store which sold personalised confectionery gifts.
