Dangerous “bling dummies” which pose choking hazards to babies have prompted a warning from trading standards officials.
Trading standards officers have cautioned against the craze, which sees baby dummies decorated with diamant, beads and rubber pictures.
The decorations, which feature popular characters like Superman and Minnie Mouse, are glued on and frequently drop off.
Fife Council Trading Standards say the craze for customising babies’ dummies with coloured gems poses a serious risk of choking for babies and youngsters.
Geoff Bates, service manager, enterprise, planning and protective services said: “If you have bought one of these dummies do not give it to your baby. It is not worth risking your child’s health for the sake of a gimmick.
“We advise anyone who decorates these dummies as a cottage industry to stop as they are unsafe.”
Dummies posing such a risk have been found for sale on Facebook, Ebay and other internet sites.
