Tay Road Bridge manager crossing over into new post

Tay Road Bridge manager Iain Mackinnon is leaving for a key post on the Forth replacement crossing project.
He is to be senior consultant with client delivery company Jacobs on Scotland’s biggest infrastructure scheme in a generation.
Mr Mackinnon, who is 56 and originally from Kirkcaldy, said he had hugely enjoyed his six years in charge of the Tay Road Bridge.
“The new post represents a considerable professional challenge and it is one to which I am very much looking forward,” he said.
“The Tay Bridge post is one where you are in charge 24 hours a day.
“It is also an engineering challenge because you oversee the maintenance programme and have to cope with operational issues like high winds, traffic accidents and roadworks.
“The Queensferry Crossing post is quite different, as it poses engineering and technical challenges because you are supervising the construction of a major structure.”
Mr Mackinnon began his career as bridge officer with Cumbria County Council. He then worked for Babtie, where he managed projects on the M74.
