Craigrothie Primary pupil wins The Courier Junior Journalist competition
ByGayle Ritchie
The Courier made a surprise visit to Craigrothie Primary School in Fife to reveal the winner of our fantastic Junior Journalist competition.
Forty schools from across Courier Country and 65 classes entered the competition, which was aimed at children aged eight to 12.
The project encouraged pupils to enjoy reading and writing through studying their copies of The Courier.
We then asked them to come up with their own front pages.
With a staggering 1471 entries flooding in to the competition, choosing a winner was always going to be tough.
Craigrothie P5 pupil Grace Finlay came up with the magical concept of moon ice cream and adapted it into an eye-catching and expertly designed page.
Check out our video of nine-year-old Grace, her classmates and teachers as they find out she’s won the top prize!
Whoops of delight could be heard for miles around as features writer Gayle Ritchie handed over Grace’s framed front page and a cheque for an amazing £3,000 to be spent by the school on whatever it fancies.
Find out more about the competition, those who took part, and how the winners plan to use their prize money, in Wednesday’s Courier
