Professor Michael Sandel visited Kirkcaldy to give the Adam Smith Lecture in the theatre that bears the revered economist’s name.
The room was filled as Professor Sandel delivered What Money Can’t Buy: the Moral Limits of Markets, to guests, pupils, Fife College students and the general public.
The event was organised by Kirkcaldy’s Ambitions, a partnership that includes Fife College, Adam Smith Global Foundation, the council, Fife Cultural Trust and Kirkcaldy4All.
Professor Sandel, political philosopher and professor at Harvard University in the US, has been described as “the most relevant living philosopher” and “most famous teacher of philosophy in the world”.
MP Gordon Brown made the introduction, saying: “I have known Michael Sandel for many years and I am delighted he has been able to visit Scotland and take time to visit us all here in Kirkcaldy.
“I’m certain Adam Smith would have felt very proud, just as we are, to have someone of Professor Sandel’s global appeal and notoriety visit our home town to speak at a lecture in his name.”
