Police believe Carnock Primary van incident was innocent

Police have moved to quell fears after primary school children were approached by strangers in a van in a West Fife village.

A Carnock parent contacted the police after two children were spoken to by the driver of a blue van in the village’s Carneil Road.

The children were on their way home from Carnock Primary School when the incident occurred just after 3pm on Wednesday.

The pupils said the driver of the van asked them what year they were in at school, which led to parents expressing their concerns on social media.

A parent of one of the children told the Courier: “The kids were just a bit confused as to why they were being asked the question.

“The kids walked away immediately whilst answering primary three and four. The van then pulled away and headed in the direction of Oakley.”

A police spokesman told the Courier that the van driver had spoken to the children while parked at a red light as he travelled through the village.

Officers say they are not seeking to arrest anyone in connection with the incident.
