The Tay Road Bridge was shut for several hours last night as police negotiated with a man after he became distressed.
Dozens of officers attended the scene at the Fife end of the bridge, sealing it off for more than three hours.
It was the second time in as many nights that the bridge had been closed following concerns about different individuals. On Monday night the alarm was raised after a woman was spotted walking on the carriageway, but no trace of her was found.
The latest incident began at around 8.40pm on Tuesday when officers received a call from a person concerned about a man, thought to be in his 20s.
Unconfirmed reports on social media suggested that a Good Samaritan might have spent around five minutes talking with the troubled man before police arrived.
The coastguard were also called out before the man was eventually persuaded by police to hand himself over and he was taken to Ninewells Hospital. He is not thought to be injured.
Scores of motorists were left stranded on both sides of the bridge and football fans were also caught out as they tried to return home after the Dundee United v Aberdeen game at Tannadice.
A police spokesman said: “A man in his twenties was received by officers and is now being conveyed to Ninewells.”
