Madras College decision will not be called-in by Scottish Government
ByMichael Alexander
The Scottish Government has confirmed that it will not call-in Fife Council’s decision to build a new single site Madras College on the southern hillside at Pipeland.
The dramatic announcement comes after the planning application, approved by Fife Council on April 3, was referred to the Scottish Government because the proposed school would be built on greenbelt land a big departure from council plans.
Pro-Pipeland campaigners have been pushing for the school to be built to replace the dilapidated split-site facilties at Kilrymont and South Street.
But Pipeland objectors hoped the Scottish Government would order a call-in to allow the Pipeland proposal to be considered in an “objective way”.
They fear the development will destroy the landscape character of St Andrews and set a precedent for further development in the area.
