A new purpose-built endoscopyfacilityhas opened at Dunfermline’s Queen Margaret Hospital.
The first-floor location, which has been created as part of the hospital’s developmentproject, will provide an enhanced seven-day service for the 350 patients it treats.
The bright and spacious facility also boasts a new endoscopy reprocessing unit to decontaminate surgical equipment. A clinical intervention unit is also being built adjacenttoendoscopy andthedaysurgery department.
Both new facilities are part of a wider plan to create a fully functioning diagnostic and treatment centre at the hospital, whichaimstobring together services to benefit patients from across Fife.
JohnWilson,NHS Fife chief executive, said: “Thenewendoscopy unitisasignificant improvement on existing facilitiesatQueen Margaretand,along withthemoveofday intervention, represents an important milestone in the development of the diagnostic and treatment centre on site.
“In the months ahead newdaysurgeryand urology facilities will open, while some community and primary care services willbegintomoveto dedicated fit-for-purpose accommodation on site.
“A great deal of work has been and continues to be undertaken through this project to improve facilitiesandservices atQueenMargaretfor our patients.
“Ourstaffplayan integralroleinthese developments and I would like to pay tribute to their continued efforts and commitment.”
