Firefighters believe a house fire in Inverkeithing was started by a peckish pooch trying to reach a tray of dog biscuits on top of an oven.
Crews from Dunfermline and Lochgelly were called after a blaze was started in Spittalfield Road on Monday afternoon.
Firefighters discovered a small fire in the kitchen caused by a plastic tray left on top of the oven.
Crews tackled the blaze and rescued the bull terrier, who was unharmed.
Station Manager Mark Bryce said: “The owners had left a tray of dog biscuits on top of the oven, and we believe the dog had been jumping up to try and retrieve them and accidentally turned the oven on.
“Fortunately the property had a working smoke alarm and we were able to get there quickly to extinguish the fire.
“The kitchen can be the most dangerous place in the home. Fire can cause damage not just to your property, but more seriously can put family and loved ones at risk.
“We urge every household to have working smoke alarms and test them every week. We provide free home fire safety visits and fit smoke alarms where required.
“If you or someone you know could benefit from a visit, please join Scotland’s fight against fire and request a visit by calling the SFRS freephone number 0800 0731 999, or by contacting their local fire station.”
