Kirkcaldy in line for second Paul Walker tribute car gathering

An event for enthusiasts of modified cars could become a regular feature on the Kirkcaldy calendar.
An event for enthusiasts of modified cars could become a regular feature on the Kirkcaldy calendar.

An event which drew thousands of car fans to Kirkcaldy’s Esplanade in honour of a tragic movie star is to be repeated.

Last December more than 2,500 vehicles from all over Scotland joined a tribute to actor Paul Walker, just days after the star of The Fast and The Furious films died in a high-speed road accident in California.

The 40-year-old was a passenger in a Porsche and on his way to an event for his own charity when the car smashed into a lamp-post and burst into flames.

A social media campaign saw thousands of car enthusiasts converge on Kirkcaldy creating a four-mile queue at the Esplanade.

The event was such a success that enthusiasts are now planning a major motor display for October 18.

James Stephen of organisers N/A Nonsense Racing is in talks with Fife Council and Police Scotland about the event and believes it will win their approval.

“We want to try and get away from the boy racer image,” he said. “A lot of people came down to the Paul Walker event to see what it was all about and they saw that it passed off without any problems. Not a single person was charged with a driving offence that night.

“After it I was contacted by people who said they thought it was great for Kirkcaldy and we already have a lot of backing for what we are planning to do in October.”
