A Fife woman has been left in a “nightmare situation” after she has been informed that she may not receive her renewed passport in time for her honeymoon.
Elizabeth Dey, a working mother of six, is due to fly to Amsterdam on June 23.
However, due to incorrect advice from the Passport Office she has been warned that she may not receive her passport in time.
Mrs Dey, 33, of Dunfermline, who married Christopher on September 1, has saved up for years to enjoy her first holiday with her husband.
Not only did she receive inaccurate advice from the Passport Office, she was also informed by an adviser that her application was being processed when this was not the case.
Mrs Dey, a customer adviser with Sky, has now been told she must travel to Glasgow to attend an interview to obtain a passport.
Her interview was arranged for today. But with an average four to 10 days to process passports, this could take her beyond her honeymoon date.
Dunfermline MP Thomas Docherty raised Mrs Dey’s case in the House of Commons with the Home Secretary Theresa May.
She has now offered a personal ministerial intervention into Mrs Dey’s case.
Mr Docherty said: “I am delighted that the Home Secretary has now offered to intervene in this case personally. I will continue to support Ms Dey to ensure that she receives her passport in time for her honeymoon.”
