Angry horticulturists have blasted BT for failing to live up to its promise to save their village flower display.
BT had assured members of Newport and Wormit in Bloom they would move their flower-filled rowing boat after planting a broadband box directly in front of it.
Yet more than a month later the telecommunications giant has failed to live up to its word.
Despite telling villagers they would have the boat moved by the first week in June, the gardeners are still waiting.
Newport and Wormit in Bloom chairwoman Kate Legg said: “Nothing’s happened. We have got all the summer plants ready to go in but until the boat is moved, we can’t do that.
“With BT having said they would do it, it’s like a broken promise. The plants will all just wither and die and it cost a lot of money to get these plants in.”
The boat had been in position for two years on Flass Road when the box, which provides high speed broadband to the area, appeared out of nowhere and blotted out the green-fingered display.
BT claimed it was bound by strict underground infrastructure connection requirements.
The company is still working in the village placing new broadband cabling, yet has done nothing with the boat display.
Kate added: “They’ve dug a trench near where the boat is. I thought that meant they were going to move the boat afterwards but it was just a trench to put in cabling.
“If they’re not going to do it we’ll just go ahead and do it ourselves. It will show BT is not good for its word.”
A BT spokesman said: “BT is planning to assist the community with the relocation of the display boat but this is not quite as straightforward as it may seem.
“The boat is earth laden and heavy so needs to be moved in a way that is sensitive to the local environment and makes sure there is no structural damage.
“We have been in discussion with Fife Council about the best way forward and we are talking to our contractors about relocating the boat.
“We will contact the community council direct to update them.”
