Police say they have informed the family of a missing Fife teenager after a body was found near Coaltown of Wemyss.
The body was found shortly after 4pm but has yet to be identified.
The find comes after police had appealed for information on Kirkcaldy teenager Dylan McIndoe, 17, who was reported missing after a party in Buckhaven on Sunday.
Confirming a body had been found, a Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland officers in Fife searching for missing person Dylan McIndoe have been informed of the discovery of a body in the Coaltown of Wemyss area.
“A thorough examination of the scene has been carried out and there are no suspicious circumstances.
“The family of Dylan, who was reported missing from his home in Kirkcaldy on Sunday evening, have been informed and Police Scotland is working with them to help them through this difficult time.”
A police helicopter was drafted in on Monday morning to assist in the hunt for Dylan, who has not been seen since he left a family barbecue in Buckhaven. For more, see Tuesday’s CourierHe was apparently intending to walk from the house in Brady Crescent to his home in Kirkcaldy but did not arrive.
Inspector Donald Jenks, who is leading the inquiry, said earlier: “Our enquiries are at an early stage but it would appear that Dylan has left the barbecue after a minor argument.
“He was last seen near to the Buck and Hynd pub on Methilhaven Road, Buckhaven, apparently heading home to Kirkcaldy.”
He added: “When he hadn’t returned home by Sunday evening his family contacted the police.
“Our enquiries at the moment are concentrating on checking the routes he may have taken to Kirkcaldy and checking with friends and associates.
“As it is now over a day since he was last seen, we are concerned that he may have come to some harm and would ask that anyone who can help us find Dylan get in touch.”
Dylan is described as 6ft 1in, of slim muscular build with short dark brown hair and is clean shaven.
When last seen he was wearing a blue t-shirt with red and white horizontal stripes, grey jogging trousers and dark blue training shoes.
