The family of a young Fife man who died from a single stab wound to the chest almost seven years ago have made a fresh appeal to the public for information.
Colin Marr died from a stab wound to the chest on July 10 2007 in Lochgelly, following an altercation with his girlfriend Candice Bonar in their flat in Johnston Crescent.
His death was ruled as a suicide but it has since come to light that a catalogue of errors were made by the then Fife Constabulary on the night.
The case is being treated as “unresolved” and remains open.
Colin’s mother and stepfather, Margaret and Stuart Graham, have been working with Tony Whittle to investigate significant aspects of the case.
The retired head of CID at West Yorkshire Police has helped the family piece together vital information from the night of their son’s death, culminating in two new reports with evidence which is thought to support criminal allegations being submitted to the Crown Office.
In light of the new information, the family are now appealing to anyone with any knowledge from the night in question, or who may have been a witness, to come forward and speak in confidence to an independent solicitors’ firm.
Margaret and Stuart said in a joint statement: “Losing a child is the worst pain imaginable but for this to be followed by what has quite literally been a battle, every single day, to glean just the tiniest detail about the circumstances around Colin’s death has served only to intensify our grief.
“We are appealing to anyone who knows anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward in confidence and share this with us.
“The help we have received from Tony Whittle has proved invaluable and we finally feel we are making progress. Any information we can get from this appeal could prove crucial.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said it has engaged with the Grahams since April last year and is aware of the inquiries undertaken in relation to this matter.
The family ask anyone who has any information regarding Colin Marr’s death to contact Basten Sneddon Solicitors on 01383 621144.
