A Buckhaven man left his partner permanently disfigured after smashing her with a glass during an alcohol-fuelled attack.
Robert Stewart, 33, chased the mother of his three children down and assaulted her after she threw away his vodka bottle.
He repeatedly struck her with a glass, which shattered over her, then kicked her on the ground as she screamed in agony.
He then dragged her by her hair back into the caravan the couple shared on Shore Street, Buckhaven, as she was bleeding heavily from cuts caused by the attack. At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court yesterday, Stewart admitted assaulting a woman and punching her on the head, repeatedly striking her on the body with a glass or similar instrument, repeatedly kicking her on the body and dragging her along the ground.
Sheriff James Williamson deferred sentence on Stewart, who is serving a custodial sentence, until next month for reports and a risk assessment.
Stewart’s victim was left with a two centimetre wound to her upper right arm, a four centimetre wound in her right forearm and a two centimetre wound near her right wrist.
Doctors also discovered fragments of glass embedded in her arm and she has been left with permanent scarring.
Depute fiscal Susan Dickson said that at the time of the assault, Stewart and his partner of eight years were living together in the caravan.
On October 4 last year Stewart had returned to the caravan drunk and proceeded to strike his partner in the face.
When Stewart made to return to his home address, which was next to the caravan site, his partner threatened to report him to the police. She then poured out the contents of a vodka bottle and a glass and threw them on to a nearby grass area.
When Stewart returned, his partner attempted to retrieve the bottle and glass only for him to chase and catch her when he discovered his alcohol in the caravan was gone.
Solicitor Martin McGuire said the couple had had a “fairly turbulent relationship over the last five/six years, largely due to alcohol consumption.”
