Drunk drove into back of car at Tay Road Bridge with baby inside

A drink-driver who crashed into the back of a car with an 11-week-old baby inside was told the incident “could have been a funeral” instead of a court case.
Kyle Forbes, 22, crashed into a car containing a couple and their baby son, pushing both cars off the road at the south exit of the Tay Road Bridge.
The court heard Forbes drove at speed off the bridge, over the centre of the roundabout, then into the couple’s car.
Both cars flew off the road and landed on the grass verge at the bottom of a steep embankment. Depute fiscal Keith Robertson said it was 7.35pm on April 4 when the incident took place.
The couple got out to check on their “screaming” son and Forbes got out of his vehicle, appearing “disorientated”.
Forbes, of Acorn Court, Cellardyke, admitted careless driving and driving while more than twice the legal drink drive limit (77 mics).
Sheriff George Way said: “You’re lucky to be here. This might not have been a court case, it could have been a funeral.”
Forbes was ordered to pay £1,500 compensation to the family and disqualified from driving for 40 months.
He was ordered to complete 200 hours’ unpaid work and placed under one year’s supervision.
