Adam Smith Theatre to remove its Rolf Harris mural

A mural painted by shamed star Rolf Harris, which has adorned the wall of a Fife theatre for almost 30 years, is to be removed.
The ‘Jake the Peg’ artwork was painted backstage by Harris during a week-long stint at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy in 1985, when he was at the height of his fame.
Harris was jailed for five years and nine months last week after being found guilty of 12 charges of indecently assaulting four girls between 1968 and 1986.
Laurie Piper, head of external relations for Fife Cultural Trust, said the mural will now be removed.
But the former head of publicity at the theatre, Bert Ross, has questioned the decision, saying it perhaps should be left where it is because it is “part of the theatre’s history”.
