Workers at Methil BiFab plant sacked after failing drugs tests

Workers at BiFab in Fife have been sacked after failing random drugs tests in a crackdown by factory bosses.
A number of sub-contractors lost their jobs as part of the new strict drug and alcohol testing procedures at BiFab engineering plant at Fife Energy Park in Methil. Other works opted to walk off the site rather than submit to tests.
BiFab operations director Martin Adam claimed the business was leading the way in efforts to eliminate employees being under the influence of drugs or alcohol when at work.
Mr Adam said: “We’ve 2500 people on site and over a period of three months we’ve had a just under one per cent failure on that from sub-contractors. We’ve introduced a pre-employment drug and alcohol check to eliminate that completely.
He added: “We’re doing 100 per cent pre-employment tests and random tests thereafter, but we will do every single individual that we have on site. We’re setting a standard which we will maintain and which is a step in the right direction.
