A Fife firm has returned from the World Cup with an achievement of its own running the largest youth sporting event in Brazil during the World Cup.
Cupar company AMsportstours’ World Cup Academy worked with 604 participants from 14 countries.
The World Cup Academy events included young players training and competing with local players, evenings of Brazilian entertainment, day trips to Rio and time on Copacabana Beach, as well as attending games in the famous Maracana Stadium.
AMsportstours based the project in the coastal resort of Buzios, 100 miles from Rio, and ran the World Cup Academy with partner Buzios Esporte Clube, which invested money back into the club for renovation and development.
Company boss Austin McPhee said: “In the industry within which we operate, projects such as this can be holistic, and it is important when we work in other countries that the local players and clubs have benefits from international players and families isiting.
“This is the unique part, the experience these young Scottish kids have of playing and training with Brazilians at the World Cup.”
