AROUND 50 huntsmen and women took to horseback yesterday for a Fife tradition that goes back centuries.
The Boxing Day meet of Fife Foxhounds took place at Hilton House and attracted a crowd of supporters to see the riders off to the call of the horn.
The hunt was one of several hundred which took place across the UK as it was revealed promised moves to lift the ban in England and Wales are unlikely to be made in the coming year.
Hunting with hounds was banned in Scotland 10 years ago but the practice has continued due to a loophole in the legislation.
The Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002 allows packs of hounds to be used to flush out foxes from cover to guns as long as the foxes are humanely shot in the interests of vermin control and with the permission of the landowner.
