A search and rescue helicopter had to airlift three youths from Binn Hill in Burntisland after a rescue effort by firefighters was derailed by bad weather on Wednesday night.
Fire crews from Lochgelly and Burntisland were called out to Binn Hill just before 8pm after three youths found themselves stranded on the cliff.
Line rescue equipment was used in the initial attempt to bring the men down from the cliff but as the weather deteriorated it was decided it would be safer to airlift the youths to safety.
A search and rescue helicopter was called to complete the rescue shortly after 9pm.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Spokeswoman said: “Three casualties were being lifted down to ground level.
“Line rescue units were despatched but the three casualties and two firefighters were winched off the cliff face by a rescue helicopter because of the weather.”
None of the youths were injured but were checked over by paramedics before being allowed home.
Twitter user Mark Durkin said: “Just witnessed someone being winched by helicopter from The Binn Hill in Burntisland. Conditions were terrible.”
The inclement weather led to a number of call outs for fire crews in Fife.
As well as road accidents, fire crews were also called out to Dover Way in Dunfermline just before 7pm after a house was struck by lightning.
Nobody was hurt and the strike did not start a fire but did disrupt electrical equipment.
