Dog mess blights Kirkcaldy’s new look promenade after £9m transformation
ByThe Courier Reporter
Dog walkers who fail to pick up after pets are making a mess of Kirkcaldy’s new look promenade.
Around £9 million was spent on rebuilding the town’s sea wall and revamping the walkway alongside it.
Just months after the transformation was completed a warning was issued that on-the-spot fines will be handed to offenders.
Environmental enforcement officers are to conduct regular patrols of the area.
Kirkcaldy councillor Neil Crooks said: “The amount of dog fouling along Kirkcaldy Esplanade is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“I plead with dog walkers to be responsible and tidy up after their dogs.
“There are 13 bins along the Esplanade, so there’s no excuse for dog fouling.
“If you get caught not clearing up after your dog it’s a £40 fine.”
Mr Crooks, chairman of Fife Council’s Kirkcaldy area committee, also urged people help tackle the problem by reporting those they spot failing to bag and bin their dogs’ deposits by calling 03451 550022.
