Weeks without working town clock has locals ticked off
ByThe Courier Reporter
Fears have been expressed that a Fife village has become the land that time forgot.
Councillor Fiona Grant is ticked off that repairs to the town clock in Leslie have taken so long and has written to Fife Council’s chief executive calling for action.
Ms Grant said it is time to reinstate the clock in St Mary’s Catholic Church after weeks out of operation.
“The clock has not worked for several weeks now and locals tell me that the clock worked right though the Second World War and may never have been stopped this long since it went up over a century ago,” she said.
“Nobody can understand why at least temporary repairs are not done to protect the internal workings from the weather and nesting birds.”
Although located within the church building, the clock is the council’s responsibility.
Alan Paterson, service manager, said: “As this is a complicated procedure involving a historic building, there are many details that have to be considered before work can begin.
“The council is working closely with the church to help facilitate this.”
