Human trafficking suspects make second court appearance
ByMichael Alexander
Two people suspected of being involved in human trafficking have made a second appearance in court.
Ana Paula Calder, 35, and Jose Martins Barbosa, 44, from Kirkcaldy, were arrested a week past Friday and appeared at the town’s sheriff court for a second time having first appeared last Monday.
Both were charged under the Criminal Justice Scotland Act accused of trading in prostitution or brothel keeping.
The cases of both accused were fully committed and the accused were bailed. However both accused were remanded pending a Crown appeal against bail anticipated later this week.
Their arrests followed a police operation which involved officers from across Scotland.
Police attended at addresses in Fife, Tayside, Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway and removed eight alleged victims.
A police spokeswoman refused to reveal the ages of the people found in the properties or if they were male or female.
