A teenager has died and another is fighting for his life in an early morning road crash on the outskirts of Kirkcaldy.
Emergency services were called to a report of an accident involving a BMW 3 Series car hitting a tree on the A955 Dysart to Coaltown of Wemyss road at around 12.50am.
The 16-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 18-year-old male driver suffered what police described as “serious” injuries and was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for further treatment.
No other vehicles were involved.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing and anyone who can assist Road Policing Officers with their investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
Two fire engines from Methil were summoned to help police officers at the scene.
The road was closed this morning between the two villages, meaning drivers had to divert via the Standing Stane Road in either direction.
