Homes evacuated in Dunfermline after smoke billows up from pavement
ByThe Courier Reporter
Smoke and loud rumbling noises prompted dozens of homes in Dunfermline to be evacuated.
Fire crews were called out around 7.30pm on Monday after being alerted to “smoke or steam” coming from the ground in the Hill Street area while loud noises were also heard emanating from the pavement.
A number of homes in the Hill Street, Rose Crescent and surrounding areas also lost power around the same time.
ScottishPower engineers were called to the scene and discovered a fuse had blown in an electrical substation, causing both the smoke and the blackout.
A statement issued by Scottish Power said it would take several hours to repair the fault.
