Fife man jailed for choke attack on former partner

A Fife man who choked his former partner to the point where her life was in danger has been jailed for 28 months.
William Adamson, 32, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Friday.
Adamson, of Leslie Street, Kirkcaldy, admitted that on March 31 2014 at Kinninmonth Street, Kirkcaldy, he assaulted the woman at her home, by repeatedly seizing her by the neck and restricting her breathing, all to her injury and the danger of her life.
Adamson had originally denied the charge but during a trial last month changed his plea to guilty.
Defence agent David Bell said his client had not been prepared to acknowledge the domestic abuse he inflicted on his former partner and to confront it.
“The fact he did eventually accept the incident had taken place and that the relationship is at an end is a step forward and shows he is no longer in denial,” said Mr Bell.
“He now accepts he was abusive and violent to his former partner.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry told Adamson:“You have committed at least 20 offences since 2000.” The sheriff said a report stated that the “level of risk” posed by Adamson couldn’t be managed in the community.
