While the people of Catalonia are still revelling in Barcelona’s Champions League triumph, another local is pushing through the pain barrier for her beloved Raith Rovers.
Carol Smith, 33, who is originally from Burntisland, is undertaking the gruelling Barcelona “Marnaton” to raise funds for the Raith Supporters Trust.
The avid supporter, who last year returned from Spain to watch her side lift the Ramsdens Cup, is competing in the multi-discipline event, designed to push participants to the very edge of their physical limits.
Having already completed a 2,000 metre open water swim, Carol, who teaches English to Spanish businesses, has an Olympic triathlon and sprint triathlon to complete by mid-July.
Hoping to raise in the region of £150, she said: “The Friday past I had the chance to do a test swim for the upcoming triathlon,” she said.
“It went well and has given me a wee confidence boost.
“The sprint triathlon is half Olympic distance but twice the speed. The aim to is to finish well and avoid the jellyfish!”
