Detective Inspector John Anderson is appealing for information following the "terrifying" incident.
A man is due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday following an incident in the town at the weekend where a woman was allegedly held against her will.
Police said a 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, which occurred in the Harris Drive area of Templehall, Kirkcaldy, on Saturday morning.
Detective Inspector Charles Duncan of Kirkcaldy CID said: “I would like to thank the public for their positive response during the last 48 hours.
“Whilst this was an isolated incident, officers will continue to be in the Harris Drive area to offer support and reassurance to the local community.”
